ALEPPO: The Long Road to Modern Destruction

Aleppo, a world heritage site, has been the home of various civilizations, and a center for different rulers and empires. Currently, the city is facing large scale destruction because of the fighting caused by the Syrian Revolution. This exhibit will showcase the history of major structures in the City of Aleppo, in Syria, from the Hellenistic period to modern day. The traverler, Ibn Jubayr, who is the subject of study for our course, visited Aleppo for brief period, but fell in love with it greatly. Analyzing his text, we will focus on certian structures that he discusses and ones important to the region. These landmakrs are: the Citadel, the Great Mosuqe of Aleppo, the Souk, and the changing city boundries.
